Formerly of High Point, North Carolina, Russell Edward Jordan Jr., passed at his beloved home in Annandale, Virginia on Sunday March 24, 2024, with his loving and devoted wife, Jane (Hartman) Jordan, formerly from Catawissa, at his bedside. Ed was born March 25, 1937 in High Point, N.C. to the late Russel E. and Emily (Ingram) Jordan, Sr.
Winning a coveted tennis tournament while in High Point High School was an aside to his strong academic focus and performance. Ed’s undergraduate education was at N.C. State University in Raleigh, North Carolina where he graduated with a BS in Engineering Mathematics followed by completion of a MS in Applied Mathematics at Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ. Edward was employed as IT Director for the government of Zambia, Africa. During his tenure of working in Africa, he became a devotee of melding into all things African: History, Nature, Wildlife, Arts, and Culinary while continuing tennis, golf, and writing. He was also employed at Bell Labs, Comcast, Potomac Electric Power Co., IT Director at the Power Co. of Jamaica, and most recently at IBM.
Ed’s library of books, music (records) and the arts(tapes/DVDS) were extensive to include a favorite comic Dilbert with genres to reflect his education, sports, and travel. Ed devotedly on dogs including his day of passing. Throughout hospice days, a loyal neighbor brought Wrigley and Daisy to Ed’s bedside so that grace and love of canine neighbors could give silent watch into Ed’s face. A profound blessing from man’s best friend.
Edward was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Edward Jordan (Tommy) with whom he now joins at Hillside Cemetery, as well as his niece Madeline.
He will be profoundly missed by his wife of 41 years Jane; sister-in-law Susan and John Tock, Sr.; nieces and nephews Julia, John Jr., Clayton and Katharine, and grandchildren; Kayla, Philip, and Caroline.
Services were held at Hillside Cemetery in Catawissa, PA.
